Dawn brings a compassionate and nurturing feel to her sessions, and creates and holds a safe space for clients to experience deep and profound awakenings. My intention is to become a catalyst for transformation and growth, and to help clients find their individual paths towards a healthy mind, body and spirit.
Since 2006, Dawn has taught yoga classes at area hospitals, workplaces, schools, and yoga studios. As a certified comprehensive yoga therapist (C-IAYT) and E-RYT 500+ yoga teacher, she facilitates both group and individual yoga therapy sessions, working with people dealing with a variety of conditions including drug addiction, cancer, digestive disorders, diabetes, eating disorders, stroke recovery, hypertension, mental health challenges (including depression, anxiety, grief and trauma), migraine headaches, arthritis, scoliosis, and sports injuries.
Outside of teaching classes and seeing private clients at East Meets West Yoga Center, she also teaches and offers private sessions at Life With Cancer in Alexandria and Fair Oaks, and teaches at Inova Kellar Center in Fair Oaks (Fairfax) and Sterling.
Dawn’s therapeutic background and training of over 1000 hours of Yoga Therapy practices that include Yoga of Recovery, Trauma Sensitive Yoga, Yoga for Depression and Anxiety, Therapeutic Yoga for Seniors through Duke Integrative Medicine, Yoga of the Heart (Cardiac and Cancer) Therapeutic Yoga, and is also a certified Ayurvedic Yoga Specialist, working with the Sister Science of Yoga, Ayurveda.
A Certified Yoga Therapist is not the same as a Yoga Teacher. She is not an Instructor with a therapeutic specialty, nor a teacher with some training in healing Yoga. A Certified Yoga Therapist is a specially-trained professional whose education and experience have been reviewed and approved to meet standards set by the International Association of Yoga Therapists. Yoga Therapy uses postures, movement, stretches, lifestyle choices, relaxation and breathing practices to address your specific issues. Your decision to enter into Yoga Therapy is a commitment to your health. It can help you prevent injury and illness, manage symptoms, and allow you to age with more grace and vitality.
Are you looking for a deeper, one-to-one experience for your healing? These sessions are personal. During a one-on-one session, I will teach you the Yoga practices best suited for your individual needs and goals. I offer private sessions shaped to meet your needs. I offer discount packages and payment plans when you book multiple sessions.
